A Beautiful Aroma – Still Life Photography

For my last assignment in my Photo Communication class I choose to do a still life photograph focused on the beauty of an alluring aroma.  I wanted to produce a perfume advertisement with a vintage feel.  I used a vintage perfume bottle as my main subject.  I added a vintage lace night gown and my great grandmother’s pearls to enhance this idea.  I also incorporated the roses to add the “aroma.”  The idea behind the overall composition was to create a photograph for an advertisement that demonstrated a classic, romantic, and timeless sense of beauty for the perfume.  I loved this assignment because it represents my personal interests and style.  This was the first time I had clearly focused on still life photography and I really love the artistic freedom and creativity I had on designing this photoshoot.  It opened my eyes to a whole new world of photography that I can’t wait to explore more.  Enjoy!

Chesterfield….A Lost World

Our next assignment in Photo Communication was about photographing a lost world.  Chesterfield is an abandoned town near Bancroft, Idaho.  Lost places like these should be photographed in order to preserve history and a story about what once was.  I photographed this home that gives a glimpse into a life that once was.  Take a look into history.  What story do these photos tell you?

The Great Gatsby Inspiration….

The American Author Washington Irving once said, “There is in every true woman’s heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.”

The Great Gatsby is known for unprecedented economic prosperity and the evolving culture that was the Roaring Twenties. Within this composition I wanted to display a sense of beauty and prosperity yet through simplicity, creating a moment of beautiful intrigue. Capturing a moment where subtle emotion and delicate placement within the overall frame would provoke wonder. The eyes are often called windows into the soul. Here, I see them as what Irving once described, “a spark of heavenly fire” that is illuminating the darkness.  For me The Great Gatsby is about illumination. Whether that is upon environment or individuals, the details that illumination can reveal is endless. What does this reveal to you?

the beauty is in the details…

Hello and welcome to my blog!  As you will discover, photography is a passion of mine.  I love to take simple moments and transform them into beautiful memories.  My photographic style tends to have some old world charm but ever so often I love to throw in bursts of color.  For my first post, I would like to keep things simple.  Here are a few examples of how beauty can be found in the details.  Enjoy!
